After months of speculation over his future, Jonathan David has finally announced his desire to leave LOSC Lille at the end of the season.

The Canadian international is set to leave the club after five years, during which he has scored 109 goals in 231 competitive matches.

David’s status as a free agent in the coming summer has put multiple clubs on red alert, with Barcelona emerging as one of the potential suitors.

Barcelona interested, but Napoli lead the race

According to SPORT, Barcelona are among the clubs keeping a close eye on David as he looks to choose his next destination.

With Robert Lewandowski not getting any younger, the club could be looking for reinforcements in the goalscoring department.

Barça have been linked with a move for Marcus Rashford, but Jonathan David could be an interesting alternative as he can also operate across the attacking channels and can serve as an ideal backup for Lewandowski.

Moreover, the Canadian international’s status as a free agent makes him an even more appealing target for Barcelona, who are once again likely to face Financial Fair Play woes this summer.

That said, Barcelona are not alone in the race to sign Jonathan David. The Lille forward has also been courted by the likes of West Ham and Napoli.

Napoli, in particular, are said to be leading the race to sign David as the Italian giants look to shore up their ranks in the goalscoring department.

However, Barça can hope to lure David by promising him the opportunity to potentially become a key component in the club’s attacking unit, especially once Lewandowski leaves the club. Therefore, it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the coming weeks.
