Ethan Nwaneri’s (19) loan move from Arsenal to Marseille is turning sour, according to a feature piece from L’Equipe centred on Marseille’s dressing room in disarray. OM’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League lie in tatters after last night’s deflating 1-1 home draw against relegation-battlers OGC Nice. Les Phocéens have a four-point deficit on fourth-placed Lille with only three games left to spare.

Against Claude Puel’s Les Aiglons, Marseille head coach Habib Beye raised eyebrows with his choices of personel. Nwaneri could have reasonably hoped for a starting spot given that Igor Paixão, Hamed Junior Traoré, Amine Gouiri and Mason Greenwood were all sidelined, but the England youth international was benched. Beye justified his decision in adding the Arsenal loanee “has to give way more in his day-to-day commitment.

L’Equipe understands that Beye’s comments have some truth in it. The outlet reports that the Englishman has fallen down the pecking order at Marseille after being overtaken by youth players, who are reportedly far from impressing themselves.

Nwaneri is also said to openly display his unhappiness on a daily basis and that he does close to nothing to turn his situation around, so much so that Beye no longer sees him as a solution to solve part of Marseille’s woes. Marseille play Nantes away this weekend, and it would be a surprise to see Nwaneri involved.
