The Charles Schwab Challenge has been hit by withdrawals from two big-name players just days before the tournament starts.

Colonial Country Club will play host to the Charles Schwab Challenge this week as the PGA Tour heads to Fort Worth, Texas.

After last week’s low scoring event at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, the players will face a far tougher examination this week at Colonial.

However, what initially looked like a fairly decent field in Fort Worth is becoming weaker by the day.

Brooks Koepka pulled out of the Charles Schwab Challenge on Monday, and now another major champion has followed suit.

Wyndham Clark withdraws from the Charles Schwab Challenge

Brooks Koepka‘s withdrawal on Monday would have been a big blow to the sponsors of the event this week.

Wyndham Clark has now withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge as well, after his victory last week at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson.

The 32-year-old won his fourth PGA Tour title last week in McKinney, Texas, after finishing at 30-under par for the week.

He was delighted to return to the winners’ circle after being in the golfing doldrums for far too long.

However, as is so often the case on the PGA Tour, Clark has decided to take the week off following his win at TPC Craig Ranch.

Wyndham Clark and Brooks Koepka withdrawals are a real shame

Winning clearly takes so much out of players, both mentally and physically.

So it’s no surprise that Clark has decided to rest up this week, especially with the U.S. Open now only three weeks away.

It is a shame for Charles Schwab that another one of the bigger names who was scheduled to play in the event now won’t be in the field.

However, unfortunately for those connected with the event, that’s just the way that things have worked out.

With the planned changes on the PGA Tour set to take effect from 2028 onwards, the CJ CUP Byron Nelson and the Charles Schwab Challenge are two events that could well come under scrutiny, unless they both manage to attract stronger fields next season.
