This has seemingly been the spring of former Steelers looking to get back on respective NFL rosters. Chase Claypool was present at Green Bay Packers rookie minicamp at the beginning of May, which did not lead to a contract for the former second-round pick. Now, yet another former Steelers wideout is seemingly attempting to make his own NFL comeback.

Diontae Johnson posted a video of himself training and catching passes while working on his route running and footwork. The Toledo product did not play a regular season game in 2025.

Johnson was traded by the Steelers to the Carolina Panthers in March, 2024. He played in just seven games with the Panthers before being traded again to the Baltimore Ravens ahead of the trade deadline. He appeared in just four games with the Ravens, catching one pass for six yards and refused to enter a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which led to his release. The Houston Texans claimed him, where he appeared in one game. He then signed with the Cleveland Browns in April, 2025 but was released at the end of the preseason.

Johnson was drafted in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, catching 59 passes and five touchdowns as a rookie and earning a Second-Team All-Pro nod as a return specialist. In five seasons with the Steelers, Johnson caught 391 passes for 4,363 yards and 25 touchdowns while earning a Pro Bowl appearance in 2021.
