Alex Bowman was in the wrong place at the absolute wrong time in the NASCAR Michigan race on June 8.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver in need of a good finish in the Firekeepers Casino 400, had his day come to an end in Turn 2 on the 67th lap.

The wreck, which came in stage 2, started when Austin Cindric’s Team Penske Racing Ford touched Haas Racing’s Cole Custer, who jerked up toward the top of the track, collecting Bowman in the crash. Bowman’s front end went flush into the wall, ending his day and bringing out the red flag to stop the race to allow the track to be cleaned.

“That hurt a lot,” said Bowman in an Amazon Prime interview after the wreck. “That was probably top of the board on hits I’ve taken and unfortunately I’ve taken a lot. Hate that for the Ally 400 team.”

Trackhouse Racing’s Daniel Suarez was also involved in the wreck.

Bowman entered the race in 12th in the NASCAR Cup points standing, 213 points out of first. However, he was only 46 points from being out of the top 16 drivers and out of the playoffs. Bowman has not won a race, so he is not guaranteed a spot in the playoffs.
