Borussia Mönchengladbach is celebrating its 125th club anniversary this year. On this occasion, there will be a documentary about the club on ‘Sky’. In the very first episode, a secret is revealed. Vincent Kompany almost became the Foals’ coach in 2022. This is also reported by ‘Bild’, which provides some background information.
Manager Roland Virkus, after parting ways with Adi Hütter, was looking for a new coach and took notice of the current Bayern coach. Since he was reportedly very enthusiastic about him, he took his suggestion to then Gladbach boss Rolf Königs.
However, Königs was not familiar with Kompany’s name at all, so he instead suggested Lucien Favre. But since the attempt to bring Favre back failed, Virkus is said to have called Kompany. Unfortunately, it was a day too late. “Too bad, I signed with Burnley yesterday,” Kompany said on the phone.
Instead of the Belgian, Daniel Farke came in, but he had to leave again after just one season.
