Anna Nordqvist guided Team Europe to Solheim Cup success this week in the Netherlands.
However, Europe won in spite of Nordqvist’s decision to pair Charley Hull and Lottie Woad together.
The English duo took a measly 0.5 points from the four Solheim Cup matches they played together this week at Bernardus Golf.

Charley Hull and Lottie Woad didn’t play particularly well, but the worst thing about the pairing was that there was clearly no chemistry between the two players.

Nordqvist has received plenty of criticism for the Hull and Woad pairing at the Solheim Cup, and rightly so.
And now the two English golfers’ performances on Sunday have made the Swede’s decision look even worse.

Hull actually said she played well during the first two days of the Solheim Cup, despite losing three out of four matches.
And after her comfortable 3&2 Sunday singles win against Megan Khang, it seems like she may have been speaking the truth.

She played her best golf of the week on Sunday, making three birdies and 13 pars in the 16 holes she played.
The same goes for Lottie Woad, who beat Auston Kim 2&1 on Sunday.

The 22-year-old Englishwoman was five under for her round when she closed out the American on the 17th green.
Hull and Woad are clearly both exceptional golfers, but they simply didn’t work as a pairing.
The fact that they were rolled out for four straight sessions by Nordqvist is utterly baffling.
Chemistry is vital when selecting match-play pairings
Some people suggest that foursomes and four-balls matches are all about which players perform better on the day, but they are so much more than that.

Good chemistry between the two players is vital. The two golfers don’t always have to have the same personality, but they need to work together as a pair.
And it was clear from the morning foursomes matches on Friday that Hull and Woad simply were not going to work out.
The fact that both players went out on Sunday and comfortably won their singles matches told us all we need to know.
Anna Nordqvist must realize now that her decision to pair Charley Hull and Lottie Woad together for the first four matches was the wrong one.
Luckily, it didn’t matter in the end, as Europe ran out as comfortable 15-13 winners at the Solheim Cup.
