Scottie Scheffler is the best golfer on the planet right now, by quite some margin, just like Jack Nicklaus was in the 1960s, 1970s, and the early-1980s as well.

Nicklaus set the standard that every other professional golfer aims to match.

He won a record 18 major championships throughout his career, with 73 PGA Tour wins in total to his name.

Scottie Scheffler has drawn comparisons with Jack Nicklaus, and he has recorded 22 PGA Tour wins by the age of 30, including four majors.

Interestingly, Scheffler passed Nicklaus’ career win percentage with his victory at the Tour Championship last week.

So it’s fair to make comparisons between them, despite the fact that Scheffler still has a very long way to go to even get close to matching the great man.

Scottie Scheffler’s 2026 PGA Tour earnings compared with Jack Nicklaus’ career winnings

Scheffler won three times on the PGA Tour in 2026, and recorded 13 top-5 finishes in 20 starts.

He was the dominant figure on the PGA Tour once again, and ended up winning the money list for the fifth consecutive time.

Scheffler earned a whopping $30,937,525 on the golf course this year.

That was more than double what Cam Young, the second-highest earner, banked.

So, let’s compare Scheffler’s 2026 earnings to the amount Nicklaus won throughout his entire career on the PGA Tour.

Nicklaus played in 584 PGA Tour events, winning 73 times. He recorded 209 top-5 finishes and 286 top-10s.

In total, Nicklaus banked $5,734,031 in earnings throughout his PGA Tour career, less than 20% of what Scheffler earned in 2026!

Nicklaus played a few major championships in the 2000s, but he banked the vast majority of those earnings during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s.

Obviously, times have changed, and the figure that Nicklaus earned throughout his career would be worth north of $25 million in today’s money.

The difference is still staggering, and it just goes to show how finances in the game have grown exponentially since Tiger Woods burst onto the scene in the mid-1990s.

Jack Nicklaus’ net worth

Nicklaus founded ‘Nicklaus Design’ after retiring from competitive action.

The Golden Bear’s company is thought to be the most prestigious firm in the business of golf course architecture.

Nicklaus and his team have designed more than 400 golf courses worldwide, and that has seen his net worth peak at around $400 million.

That means the 86-year-old trails only the late, great Arnold Palmer ($700 million) and Tiger Woods ($1 billion+) in the standings of the richest golfers on the planet.

Scottie Scheffler has earned $130 million on the golf course throughout his career and, combined with sponsorship deals, his net worth is believed to be in the region of $200 million.

That figure will undoubtedly continue to rise over the next couple of decades and beyond, but whether Scheffler will ever match Nicklaus’ net worth remains to be seen.
