DeChambeau finished in a tie for 38th on seven-over, but the Crushers GC captain did manage to lead his side to the team title.

However, DeChambeau has been left with an overriding feeling of embarrassment following his efforts in the LIV Golf New York individual event.

Speaking to the media after the tournament, the American was asked if his latest scenario helps make the LIV Golf team format so unique and compelling.

“Yeah, this is what makes team golf, I think, so much better than just personal individual golf because you’ve got something else to play for,” replied DeChambeau.

“Individual golf is always great. You always want to win. We’ve done this for our entire careers.

“But adding that little element… I wouldn’t say little, a big element of the team aspect where you’re not just playing for yourself anymore.

“Like I might have been 6-, 7-, 8-over par going into the third round, but I’m like, I need to get this thing back to even par, not just for myself but for my team.

“It’s a bit disappointing and honestly embarrassing to be that far over considering the skill set and the playability that I know I have.

“But you’ve got to fight for every shot. It’s a little different out here. From a team aspect, yeah, this is what sets LIV Golf apart for sure.”

DeChambeau posted scores of five-over, three-over, one-under and even par throughout his roller-coaster week in New York.

And while he sits second in the individual standings, DeChambeau now cannot catch LIV Golf champion Jon Rahm, who has just secured his third successive title.

But his Crushers GC side are currently fourth in the team standings, behind 4Aces GC, Ripper GC and Legion XIII.

However, scheduled to take place in Michigan later this month, the fate of the LIV Golf Team Championship remains uncertain.
