Paraag Marathe has been with the San Francisco 49ers organization for 25 years. He’s held numerous high-ranking titles, like President, Executive Vice President, and Football Operations. He’s been a big part of the salary cap operations within the organization and is widely regarded as one of the most influential negotiators around the NFL.
On Saturday morning, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Marathe is departing the 49ers to focus full-time on Leeds United and Rangers FC, as well as other sports efforts. A few weeks ago, a report said Marathe was in the running to become MLS commissioner, but he withdrew his name.

The 49ers have another longtime member in the organization, Brian Hampton, who is fresh off his first season as Assistant General Manager. He’s been with the 49ers for 22 seasons. According to Matt Maiocco, Hampton is in the role Marathe has been in, managing the salary cap, contract negotiations, roster construction strategy, and planning.
The 49ers also brought back former Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who is currently the Vice President of personnel and strategy. That’s another name who could help take on some of Marathe’s duties if Hampton doesn’t fill every role.
