What happened in the first round of the Memorial?

Two former U.S. Open champs, the defending FedEx Cup champ and Ryan Gerard are all tied for the lead. Wyndham Clark, J.J. Spaun and Tommy Fleetwood all shot 67s, as did Gerard, to take the 18-hole lead.

Tommy Fleetwood saves round with short-game magic

Tommy Fleetwood respects Muirfield Village Golf Club. “It’s like the ultimate test of your game,” he said. Asked why he likes the Jack Nicklaus layout, Fleetwood shot back, “I didn’t say I like it,” and smiled and laughed. He liked the number on the scorecard that he signed for on Thursday during the first round of the Memorial in Dublin, Ohio – a 5-under 67 that included just 21 putts and a phenomenal short-game clinic. — Adam Schupak

How much money is on the line at the Memorial?

The Memorial is one of the three “player hosted” signature events. Like all of the sigs, there’s a $20 million prize fund, but at the three players-hosted events, they set aside $4 million for the winner.

Is there a cut at the 2026 Memorial?

Yes, there will be a 36-hole cut at the end of the second round. The field will go from 72 players to the low 50 and ties as well as anyone within 10 shots of the lead. At each of the first two players-hosted sigs – the Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational – 51 players made the weekend.

Where do they play the Memorial Tournament?

Muirfield Village Golf Club is the host once again. Known as Jack’s Place, the course opened on May 27, 1974. The course will play as a par 72 and measure 7,569 yards. It is tied for ninth in the brand-new, just-released Golfweek’s Best top 200 modern golf courses in the U.S., ranked for 2026 list, which was unveiled on Monday, June 1. It’s ranked No. 1 on the Golfweek’s Best: Top private golf courses in Ohio list.
