All-Pro San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa is dealing with tendinitis in his surgically repaired right knee and remains absent from practice at training camp.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan discussed Bosa’s condition with reporters on Tuesday and downplayed concern that it could linger. He described the tendinitis as “normal” for Bosa coming off surgery to repair an ACL tear and described him as “week-to-week.”

“Just soreness, tendinitis,” Shanahan said. “It’s a pretty normal thing with ACLs. Just talking to our guys, they say it happens to about 90% of the guys we’ve had. It’s a normal thing, so we’ve got to be smart here, week-to-week. No concerns about him, it being any more than that. “
Per ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, Shanahan said that the goal remains for Bosa to suit up for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 10.
Bosa tore his ACL in Week 3 last season against the Arizona Cardinals and missed the rest of the season, leaving San Francisco without its top pass rusher.

Bosa is a five-time Pro Bowler, one-time All-Pro and former Defensive Player of the Year. His was one of several significant injuries last season for the 49ers, including to All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner, who was limited to six games due to a fractured ankle.
Warner is back and has been a full participant at training camp, but the 49ers are still dealing with significant injuries to key players. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is out for the season with a PCL injury, and George Kittle’s status for the early part of the season is in doubt as he continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon sustained in the playoffs.
Christian McCaffrey, meanwhile, missed a second straight day of practice on Tuesday with what the team is calling “tightness.” The All-Pro running back has an extensive injury history, including calf tightness in 2024 training camp that lingered throughout the season. McCaffrey missed all but four games that season with what was later diagnosed as Achilles tendinitis and a separate PCL injury.
There is good news on the injury front in San Francisco. Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Evans was back at practice Tuesday after missing multiple sessions with a quad strain.
Second-round rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling has also returned for multiple sessions after being sidelined from practice with hamstring tightness.

Stribling has reportedly been thriving at camp and could be in line for increased opportunities due to the injuries to Pearsall, Kittle and wide receiver Christian Kirk, who remains sidelined from training camp with a calf strain.
