Akshay Bhatia is the clubhouse leader in Connecticut after carding an 8-under 62 for his second round at the 2026 Travelers Championship.

For a course that’s been playing favorably all week, Bhatia took advantage of soggy conditions early and often on Friday to score the lowest round so far and match his career-best score in an individual round. He was able to best Eric Cole’s opening round 63 thanks to a bogey-free card that included four birdies on the front and another four on the back.

Bhatia, who came into the day T-14, has put himself in position to possibly play with the final pairing during Saturday’s third round. He could be playing with world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who he was grouped with during the final round of the 2024 Travelers that Scheffler went on to win.

There’s still plenty of golf left to play at TPC River Highlands though. Scheffler is through his first 12 holes on Friday and sits tied with Bhatia at 12 under. He entered the day T-2 with five other layers.

Viktor Hovland is in the lead after an eagle on the par-5 13th — the same hole that Cole double circled on Thursday — and another birdie putt two holes later on No. 15. Hovland is on a pace with three holes to play where he could match Bhatia’s 62 — or possibly even beat it.

This is a developing story.
