Ram’s commercial-van comeback just got a price tag, and it’s a low one. Ram targets a 2027 ProMaster City starting price of $39,995 including a $2,595 destination charge, aiming for the lowest cost of acquisition in the commercial-van segment. That figure puts real pressure on Ford.
Ram CEO Matt VanDyke had promised a sub-$40,000 starting price when the ProMaster City debuted earlier this year. The company now targets that number, and dealers should start seeing trucks arrive by the first quarter of 2027, with production beginning before the end of this year.

An $8,400 gap is still hard to ignore, which is about the difference between the targeted ProMaster City price and the larger Ford Transit cargo van’s current base MSRP. The Ford is a full-size van that serves as the brand’s primary commercial hauler, so that spread matters when a small business is buying five or ten vans at once rather than one.
Stellantis has leaned into affordability messaging across its lineup lately. Trims, Cargo Vs. Passenger Wagon Pricing
Four versions make up the lineup. Tradesman Cargo targets $37,400, SLT Cargo $38,900, Tradesman Passenger Wagon $40,100, and SLT Passenger Wagon tops the range at $41,600, all before the $2,595 destination fee lands on top. The Passenger Wagon seats up to eight when configured with the optional third row.
Under the hood, every ProMaster City runs a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder making 166 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic that sends power to the front wheels. Cargo capacity runs to 167 cubic feet over a 111-inch load floor. The van tows up to 2,000 pounds with the available Class 3 hitch.
SLT adds a wireless charger, heated steering wheel and 17-inch wheels over the Tradesman’s base kit, which already includes a 10-inch touchscreen and digital cluster. Every trim gets forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking and standard side-curtain airbags on the Passenger Wagon.
