The third major championship of the season is here.
The golf world is descending on Shinnecock Hills in New York this week for the U.S. Open. All eyes, naturally, will be on Scottie Scheffler.
The top-ranked golfer in the world is not only a massive favorite to win, but he can make golf history with a victory this week. Scheffler is just a U.S. Open away from completing the career grand slam. He finished T2 back in 2022 for his best finish at the tournament, and was T7 last year between wins at the PGA Championship and British Open.

Plenty of other big names can get in his way, however, including Rory McIlroy. He’s won back-to-back Masters and hasn’t finished outside the top 20 since his win at Augusta in April. Jon Rahm, who is playing perhaps better than any LIV Golf member right now, was the runner up at the PGA Championship last month, too.
Here’s everything you need to know to keep up with the U.S. Open this week in New York.
Where is the U.S. Open?
The U.S. Open is being held at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York — which sits on the east end of Long Island outside of New York City. It is a frequent U.S. Open stop, most recently in 2018 when Brooks Koepka won the event.

Who won last year’s U.S. Open?
J.J. Spaun won last season at Oakmont, and was actually the only player under par that week. He posted a 2-over in the final round and ended the week at 1-under, two shots better than Robert MacIntyre. That was Spaun’s first major title in his career, though he’s missed the cut at both the Masters and the PGA Championship this season.
The last 10 U.S. Open winners are:
2025: J.J. Spaun
2024: Bryson DeChambeau
