Brazilian giant Corinthians have placed one foot in the door in the two-legged battle for the Paulista A1 Final after a narrow 1-0 first-leg win against Palmeiras.

Scorers: Alberto 58′

Verdão supporters will no doubt feel incredibly hard done on the night in front of home support at Allianz Parque, with Palmeiras far and away the more dominant side.

That dominance was unable to be crafted into, at least, a draw before their second-leg meeting with Timão on 27 March, with former Santos academy product Yuri Alberto providing the lone goal of the match in the 58th minute.

Alberto, who also had a previous stint with Russian side Zenit Saint Petersburg, slotted home from inside the area after Dutch star Memphis Depay turned provider to put Corinthians out in front.

Chance after chance would ultimately fall to Abel Ferreira’s men, who managed 22 shots on the night, including eight efforts on frame but were unable to beat Corinthians shot-stopper Hugo Souza.

Despite losing out, Palmeiras can still feel confident of overturning their reversal when they head to Neo Química Arena for the second leg, if they manage to bring their shooting boots.
