The indefatigable Kazuyoshi Miura, the world’s oldest professional footballer, has made history once again after scoring his first goal in nearly four years. The striker found the net at 59 for Fukushima United of Japan’s third division during a 7-0 thrashing of Iwaki Furukawa in the Emperor’s Cup.

A drought that finally came to an end

“King Kazu,” now in his 42nd professional season, thus ended a run of 34 matches without scoring. His last goal had come in November 2022 with Atlético Suzuka.

“Seeing the players, the coaching staff and the fans celebrate that goal together made me incredibly happy,” the veteran forward said.
