Argentine forward Alexander Díaz made a strong case to compete for this year’s Puskás Award.

He scored an absolute stunner to seal Deportivo Riestra’s 3-0 win over Boca Juniors this Sunday (26).

The match brought the opening round of the Argentine Clausura to a close.

Playing in front of their home fans at the modest Guillermo Laza Stadium — which holds 3,000 spectators — Riestra were already ahead thanks to Braian Sánchez (7′) and Antony Alonso (23′).

And they got their third before halftime.

Boca had the ball after a corner, but failed to make it count and then gave away a counterattack that would prove fatal.

Alexander Díaz took off from inside Riestra’s own half.

He burst past two opponents with pace and, before the third could do anything, lofted the ball over 2-meter-tall goalkeeper Álvaro Montero in the 38th minute.
