A celebration in the legend.

If this fifth round is so special between the two clubs, it’s because a very special event took place on this same day, 16 years ago thanks to a certain Emmanuel Adebayor.

Freshly transferred to Manchester City after a tumultuous end to his journey with the Gunners’ management, the Togolese player faces his former club at the start of the season on the pitch of the Etihad Stadium.

Jeered by Arsenal fans during the match, Adebayor takes the insults and what was bound to happen, happened. In the 80th minute of the game, the striker is found in the penalty area and catapults the ball with his head into the back of the net to make the score 3-1.

What follows is a frantic 80m run, followed by a slide to end on his knees, arms wide open and a cold stare right in front of
 the Arsenal fans’ section.

Final result? Victory 4-2 and one of the most iconic celebrations in Premier League history was born.
