With Carlo Ancelotti set to announce next week that he will depart the Santiago Bernabéu, it appears that Los Blancos have acted quickly to appoint a successor.

Speaking ahead of his Leverkusen side’s clash with Borussia Dortmund this weekend, he revealed that an agreement is already in place with the club’s hierarchy to leave at the end of the campaign.

“The club and I have agreed that these next two games will be my last as Bayer Leverkusen coach,” Alonso admitted to reporters.

Leverkusen also confirmed the news with a statement paying tribute to his successes in the two-and-a-half years in charge at the BayArena.

During that period, Alonso led the side to an unbeaten domestic double last season (in addition to the Supercup) as well as the final of the Europa League.
