WATERTOWN — Winner’s Lincoln Ziegler continued his summer atop the leaderboards on Tuesday, leading the contingent of Mitchell-area golfers in action at the South Dakota Golf Association’s Junior Tour stop at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.
Ziegler fired a 3-over 39 to win the boys 10-11 nine-hole division by one stroke, finishing his round with a pair of birdies on his card. It was his third tournament victory of the season, previously taking titles at the Pierre and Aberdeen stops.
Zoey Ziegler, also of Winner, claimed third place in the girls under-9 division after a round of 54. Hartford’s Merrick Boyden shot a nine-hole round of 44 en route to the division championship. Other nine-hole division winners include Marshall’s Brodie Winn (44) in the boys under-9 division and Watertown’s Paisley Neale (49) in the girls 10-11 division.
In the 18-hole divisions, Mitchell’s Emma Reinesch finished in second place in the girls 12-13 division, shooting a 102. Aberdeen’s Genevieve Golz finished with a round of 93 en route to the division championship.
Clark’s Logan Borns fired a 6-over 78 across Cattail Crossing’s par-72 layout to win the boys 12-13 division by one stroke. Sioux Falls’ Braxton Hollan shot an even-par 72 to win the boys 14-15 division, and Brandon’s Will Lockner posted a 6-over 78, winning the boys 16-18 division crown in a playoff over Sioux Falls’ Quinton Hollan.
Other 18-hole division winners include Aberdeen’s Mackenzie Wegehaupt in the girls 14-15 division following a round of 84 and Brookings’ Josephine Bertrand shooting an 80 en route to the girls 16-18 division title.
Tyndall’s Branaugh posts top-10 finish at Dakota Dunes event
DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. — Tyndall native Michael Branaugh finished near the top of the golf leaderboard on Wednesday.
Branaugh shot a 6-over 78 to come in sixth place in the boys 14-15 division at the SDGA Junior Tour stop at Two Rivers Golf Club, netting his fourth top-10 finish in five tournaments played in the division. His round included three birdies on the day.
Cooper Shuman, of Brandon, carded three birdies on Two Rivers’ back nine en route to a 2-over 72, winning the boys 14-15 division by two strokes. Sioux Falls’ Lincoln Trasamar was victorious in the boys 12-13 division, shooting a 3-over 73 across the course’s par-70 layout.
Other 18-hole division champions include Dell Rapids’ Madison Bacon (86) in the girls 12-13 division, Dakota Dunes’ Addicyn Sailer (82) in the girls 14-15 division, Orange City, Iowa native Jake Wrather (5-under 65) in the boys 16-18 division and Sioux Falls’ Avery Heibult (83) in the girls 16-18 division.
In the nine-hole divisions, Elk Point’s Theodore Weischedel fired a 45 to win the boys under-9 division title. Sioux Falls’ Nolan Seaborn shot a 39 en route to the boys 10-11 crown, and Brandon’s Madelynn Lahren posted a 56 to win the girls 10-11 division championship.
The next Junior Tour event takes place on Monday, July 14, at Lake Region Golf Course in Arlington.
