High school sports are back in the Rockford area, and that means it’s time to revamp the Rockford Register Star high school Athlete of the Week poll, which kicks back in this week.

You can now vote on the top athlete from Aug. 18-23.

Almost every week for the rest of the school year, we will compile a list of athletes from the Rockford area who had standout weeks and let you, the reader, vote on who you think deserves the AOW award. Every week you will be able to find the nominees as well as the poll at rrstar.com.

And every week, we ask that you vote only once per day, to keep the polls fair.

The AOW poll will stay open until noon on Friday.

Here are the nominees for this week:

Kaden Brown, Forreston golf

Brown took second at the Rock Falls Invitational on Saturday by shooting a 39 on the front and a 38 on the back, for a 77, and his solid effort boosted Forreston into first in the Small School standings with a 325 team score.

Demi Hampilos, Boylan golf

Hampilos, a senior, showed why she is the NIC-10 favorite this year by shooting 77 to win the season-opening Belvidere Invitational at Timber Pointe.

Cam Huber, Eastland golf

Huber had one of the better rounds of nine holes for a Rockford-area golfer last week, shooting an even-par 35 to spark the Eastland boys to a win over Galena.

Rory Ruper, Hononegah golf

Ruper shot 2-under par 70 at The Den at Fox Creek in Bloomington, home of the Class 3A state tournament, to win the individual title in the 17-team Mia Memorial tournament. Ruper is a junior.
