Davis vs. Roach is in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on March 1. The home of the Brooklyn Nets and New York Liberty can hold up to 16,000 people. The event airs around 8 p.m. ET. The main event fighters should make their way to the ring around 10:30 p.m. ET, depending on how long the undercard fights last.
Davis (30-0) is a three-division champion who has held the WBA lightweight title since 2019. In a fight to determine “the face of boxing,” Davis beat Ryan Garcia via knockout in April 2023. Since then, “Tank” has only fought once.
Roach was Davis’ former sparring partner, with the latter going 2-0 at the amateur level against the former. Davis looks to add to that record in Brooklyn.
“I haven’t been watching his fights too much, but I’ve been in the gym with him, and I know how he moves,” Davis said. “I’ll get in camp and get up to date on him. I know for sure he’s definitely tough and has sneaky power. He’s had sneaky power since we were kids. We’re gonna figure out what he’s best at, and we’ll take it away from him.
Roach (25-1-1) failed to capture the WBO super featherweight title against Jamel Herring in 2019. Since then, the 2013 Golden Gloves winner beat Hector Luis Garcia for the WBA super featherweight title. He moves in weight for this fight.
Davis has discussed hanging up the gloves soon. Roach looks to help him pack things up sooner than anticipated.
“I worked my a– off,” Roach told TMZ Sports. “If he’s on his way out, why not kick his a– out? I like to prove people wrong, and I damn sure like to prove myself right… I wanna prove that I’m the best.”
