“I’m really excited about this fight with Sugar Nunez. More than the fight, the main goal has been to unify these titles,” Navarrete told BoxingScene. “But I am happy that it begins with him. I studied him for probably six months and knew that he was the one I wanted to fight next.”

Nunez (29-1) won the IBF title in May and successfully defended it in his last fight in September. “Sugar” has 27 wins via knockout. At 28, Nunez’s goal is to take over the division. He’s ready to go to war with another knockout artist.

“I’m very excited and eager to be in the ring with Navarrete,” said Nunez via The Ring. “He’s a fighter I’ve always admired, and it will be an honor to unify the titles. Above all, it will be a great fight for all the fans. Mexico vs. Mexico is a guaranteed war — and this one will be no exception.”
