History will be made on Friday night, as official boxing matches will be held in Times Square. Fatal Fury: Times Square is a three-bout card that will be held in Times Square in the middle of Manhattan on Friday, May 2.

Instead of choosing to hold the event at Madison Square Garden or the Barclays Center, it was decided that they would block off a section of Times Square, build a boxing ring, and bring in lights to hold an entire boxing event right there on the street. It was a head-scratching decision from the start, given how busy Times Square can be.

Still, one interesting angle for the boing fight was that since it was just on the streets of Times Square, it would be viewed by people passing by. Instead, on the day of the fights, a blockade was erected around the ring. This makes sense from a security perspective, but doesn’t exactly live up to passersby being able to watch it.

Here is more on the boxing ring set up in Times Square for the Ryan Garcia, Devin Haney card.

How the Times Square boxing ring got built

The boxing ring was built right in the middle of Times Square, where the New Years Eve ball drops.
