Even at age 37, with a record of 1-4 in his last five, the New England Cartel’s boxing aficionado Rob Font remains too much for these young bantamweights. Font made sure to let everyone know that losing to Aldo, Sandhagen, and Figueiredo does not mean he is washed with his stellar performance against Kyler Phillips on Saturday in UFC Vegas 99’s co-main event.

He is far from it. Font put on a boxing clinic against a flashy striker like Phillips. More than that, he also made an adjustment after being stuck on his back in the first round and got to his feet to keep putting hands on Kyler.

As the ninth-ranked fighter in the most stacked division on earth, the opponents will not get any easier for Rob. Still, perhaps he will not have to fight former champions like Figueiredo and Aldo.

Slightly above Font sits another stellar striker, Song Yadong. Yadong is also a fighter who beats everyone but the top echelon, having lost to only Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen since 2021.

At 26 years old, Song still has a few years to get to the belt before he is past his prime. Beating a veteran with elite skills in one of Yadong’s best areas would be a big feather in his cap as he seeks to hone his skills.

As for Font, his abilities are not enough to get him to the belt, but he clearly has the skills to pay the bills for a while by beating up young, rising contenders in the scariest division in the UFC.
