Richard Petty once autographed a live duck. No kidding. Happened at the North Carolina State Fair in the early ’90s.
Compared to that, signing whiskey bottles is rather routine.
First, some other details.
Valentine’s Day is sneaking up on you, isn’t it?

Have some special vibes with a certain someone out there? Is that someone perhaps a NASCAR fan? A whiskey drinker?
Well, we’ve got you covered. How does an autographed bottle of Richard Petty’s new whiskey sound? Sounds like a Valentine’s Day gift that keeps on giving — well, for as long as 750 milliliters will last you.
Petty, long ago anointed the King of Stock Car Racing, returns yet again to the place where he built much of his NASCAR legend — Daytona. While here for NASCAR’s season-opening Speedweek, he’ll carve out some time to go across the street to the massive Total Wine liquor store to greet fans and sign their bottles of Roaming Man, a product of Sugarlands Distilling Company.
He’ll be there from 1-2:30 next Thursday afternoon, Feb. 13 — one day before the patron saint of love, Valentine, mandates you do something nice for that special person in your life. (Fun fact: Valentine was also the patron saint of beekeepers, which indicates he had a thing for his honey. True story.)
NASCAR Nation, Daytona not foreign ground for Sugarlands Distilling Company
Released in 2017, Roaming Man is what the Sugarland folks label a “Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey.”
It’s not the company’s first endorsement venture inside NASCAR. In 2022, Sugarlands partnered with Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his wife Amy to launch High Rock Vodka.
NASCAR fans might want to break out the Goody’s
For Petty, who won seven NASCAR championships and seven Daytona 500s, this is a new road traveled on the endorsement map. Over his career, he was famously associated with STP fuel additive and Goody’s Headache Powder, which, by the way, might be put to use if you go crazy with the Roaming Man next week.
“The release at Daytona is a perfect fit. This is the place where we had a lot of success and there are a lot of special memories for our family,” the King said through a Sugarlands press release. “I can’t think of a better place to debut this partnership and celebrate those moments with our fans.”
While this is the first partnership between Petty and Sugarlands, the company says more are planned.
If you’re a race fan and you’re near Daytona International Speedway, you’re also near Total Wine. It’s located in the International Speedway Square shopping center, 2500 West International Speedway Boulevard. Practically a stone’s throw from the Speedway’s Turn 1.
