A new championship is coming to WWE.
Ahead of Raw on Monday, Raw general manager Adam Pearce announced the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.
“It is my distinct honor to present their own symbol of excellence to fight for,” he said to the crowd. “Ladies and gentlemen, I bring to you the brand new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship.”
Pearce spoke highly of the women of WWE, calling them “the real workhorses of our sport.”
“It has been the symbol of excellence for the real workhorses of our sport, those that night in and night out unquestionably leave it all in the ring, blood, sweat and tears,” he said. “I feel the same way about the women’s division of Monday night. They pour their heart, their blood, sweat and tears into their craft and every week they prove to me time and again that they are the true workhorses in WWE.”
Pearce didn’t go into detail about how the new championship will work, but he did say that it will be a tournament format and will start next week.
Pearce’s announcement comes after WWE announced the Women’s United States Championship during WWE SmackDown earlier in November. The NXT Women’s North American Championship was also revealed in April and Kelani Jordan won the event in June.
