The Vancouver Canucks have recalled defenseman Erik Brannstrom from Abbotsford, the team announced Thursday.

Brannstrom was recalled after defenseman Derek Forbort left the team due to personal reasons.

Drafted in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights, Brannstrom spent the start of the season with Abbotsford, registering three assists in two games.

In 2023-24, while playing for the Ottawa Senators, Brannstrom registered three goals and 17 assists for 20 points in 76 regular season games. Since coming to North America in 2018, Brannstrom has played in 266 career NHL regular season games, putting up 69 points.

With Brannstrom getting recalled, he gets a well deserved chance after impressing with Abbotsford. Brannstrom will most likely see regular duty with Vancouver until Forbort returns.
