England’s Tyrrell Hatton heads into the final round of the US Open in sixth place on one-over, just five shots behind home favourite Sam Burns and still within sight of his first major after a third-round 68.
World No22 Burns carded three birdies and two bogeys in his one-under 69 yesterday as he maintained his overnight lead. Australian Adam Scott, the 2013 Masters champion, is one shot off the pace after a 67, including a 15-foot birdie putt on the 17th to briefly tie the lead. American JJ Spaun is another on three-under.
Norway’s Viktor Hovland shot a level-par 70 and sits at one-under, the same as South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence. They are the only other players in credit on the course.
Scotland’s Bob McIntyre sits in the top ten on three-over, but world No2 Rory McIlroy is a distance back after a 74 left him on 10-over.
