Uruguay opened the gap for Brazil to qualify for the World Cup still on this Tuesday (10).
Celeste beat Venezuela 2-0 at Centenario, in Montevideo, and took a big step towards next year’s World Cup.
With the result, the Brazilian national team only needs to beat Paraguay at Neo Química Arena to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup.
In the case of the Paraguayans, the situation became even simpler: a draw is enough to secure the spot.
Until this FIFA date, Argentina was the only team qualified through the Conmebol qualifiers.
Besides Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Colombia occupy the G6 of the tournament, which gives a direct spot in the World Cup.
Venezuela, in seventh place, would be qualified for the playoffs.
Uruguay pressured the Venezuelan team from the start and opened the scoring in the final stretch of the first half.
In a corner kick, Rodrigo Aguirre, ex-Botafogo, appeared on the second post to head the ball into the net.
The second goal came from Arrascaeta’s feet in the early minutes of the second half.
The Flamengo player took off with the ball in the attacking field and finished strongly from outside the area to score a great goal.
