Joe Pyfer did his best to make Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 271 main event vs. Israel Adesanya a big deal in the minds of fight fans.
And Pyfer delivered, earning the biggest win of his career live on Paramount+. The event took place from the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington.
In the pre-fight build, Pyfer declared Adesanya to be the best middleweight in UFC history. And by finishing him, Pyfer secured his standing in the division moving forward.
The end came late in the second round, as Pyfer caught “The Last Stylebender” and was relentless, forcing the referee to step in and call it off. He has now won four in a row, with three being stoppages.
Adesanya, meanwhile, now finds himself in a four-fight losing skid, with the last two being TKO defeats.
Michael Chiesea goes out a winner in retirement bout
Washington’s own Michael Chiesa got the kind of “Rocky” ending everyone wants, earning a first round submission victory. Chiesa locked in a rear-naked choke and earned the tap in just 63 seconds.
Alexa Grasso made sure her place in the UFC women’s flyweight division rankings held true, stopping fellow contender Maycee Barber in the co-main event. Grasso connected for the knockout in the opening round.
Lerryan Douglas, Yousri Belagroui and Terrance McKinney were other main card winners.
Bonuses for Pyfer, Grasso
Performance of the Night bonuses went to both Pyfer and Grasso, as Tofiq Musayev and Ignacio Bahamondes scored the Fight of the Night bonus. All four walked away with $100,000, as all other finishes earned an additional $25,000.
