SPICER — Some of the top bass anglers in the upper midwest are making their way to Green Lake next week.
The Classic Bass Champions Tour presented by Skeeter Boats takes over Green Lake on Tuesday, Aug. 26 as part of the 2025 Championship.
The Champions Tour activities begin at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday at Zorbaz, 159 Lake Avenue South in Spicer.
The schedule of activities:
* Boat check, 5:45 a.m.
* Morning meeting and prayer, 6:30 a.m.
* National Anthem, 6:40 a.m. (anglers in boats)
* Blast off, 6:45 a.m.
* Round one, 7-11 a.m.
* Mid-day break, 11 a.m. to noon
* Round two: Noon to 4 p.m. (lines out)
* Awards ceremony, 5 p.m.
The Champions Tour is unique in that no bass are put in the boat’s live well. Each bass weighing more than one pound is weighed on the water using an app, then released back into the lake.
High school officials are used to weigh the bass and enforce penalties on each boat, allowing young anglers to learn more about the sport.
Charlie Wright of Becker and Evan Blakely of Nisswa are neck and neck in the season Angler of the Year point standings. Wright has 185 points. Blakely has 184.

Ron Mehr of Paynesville is in his third year on the tour. Mehr has four top-10 finishes and has made $17,100 in career earnings.
The tour this year has made stops at the Le Homme Dieu Chain near Alexandria, Lake Minnetonka in the Twin Cities, the Mississippi River near La Crosse, Wisconsin, and on Lake Vermilion in St. Louis County.
Brad Foss aced No. 9 hole at Eagle Creek Golf Course. It’s his second hole-in-one. His first was in Atwater on a par-3 hole. No. 9 at Eagle Creek is a par-4 and plays at 310 yards.
He used a Wilson driver. What’s notable is that Eagle Creek staff believe it is the first hole-in-one at the par-4 No. 9, according to Pat Otteson, Eagle Creek’s assistant golf pro.
