Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter exited Saturday’s Arizona game with an aggravated shoulder injury and will not return. Hunter suffered the injury last week against Kansas State and similarly had to miss the second half of the 31-28 loss.
The decision to pull Hunter was precautionary with the Buffaloes taking a 28-7 lead into halftime, according to the Fox broadcast. He returned to the sideline wearing street clothes. Hunter caught two passes for 17 yards and added a tackle at cornerback against Arizona.
Hunter suffered the injury during the second quarter against Kansas State. He went to the locker room multiple times to address the issue and ultimately returned to the sideline with a shoulder brace. He was considered likely to return against Arizona in Week 8.
The former No. 1 recruit is fighting for his spot in the Heisman Trophy race against Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. Hunter has played 739 snaps through seven games, including more than 120 in his first five games. However, he was limited to 77 total snaps in his last two games thanks to the injury. His Heisman Trophy case largely hangs on his sheer number of snaps and two-way excellence.
Coming into the week, Hunter had 49 catches for 587 yards and six touchdowns. He also has two interceptions, plus a game-winning forced fumble (vs. Baylor).
