About 90 minutes before the first group of Tommy Fleetwood and Russell Henley were set to tee off, the PGA Tour announced preferred lies would be in effect for the third round. The weather forecast, according to Accuweather:

Mostly cloudy and humid with a couple of showers and a heavy thunderstorm, especially late in the day; there can be ponding on roadways Hi: 78°. Tonight: A thunderstorm in spots this evening; otherwise, rather cloudy and humid Lo: 69°

World No. 1 Scheffler shot a 1-under 69 and is in solo sixth after 36 holes. Afterwards, he was asked about the weather, in light of Friday’s tee times moving up three hours and what might be in store for the weekend.

“I think this golf course definitely plays a bit different when it’s firm. Would I hope the rain stays away? Yes. Also so we don’t get extremely delayed over the weekend. But we’ll see what happens. I can’t control the weather,” he said. “Today the weather forecast looked pretty bad as we were and we were able to get 18 holes in, so we’ll see what happens over the next couple days.”

What does the winner of the 2025 Tour Championship get?

The top eight finishers in Atlanta will clear seven figures for their work:

  4. $3.2 million
  5. $2.75 million
