GREELEY — CheyAnne Schrick had this written down as one of the main items in her notebook of goals for the season.

State champion.

It’s a big, audacious and ambitious goal.

Now Schrick can go home and check that one off.

The Timnath sophomore is a high school golf state champion, winning the Class 3A girls golf crown May 20.

“It’s kind of unreal. I’m kind of still in shock. I knew I could do it, but actually doing it is really game-changing,” Schrick said after finishing two strokes ahead of second-place Zoe Bar-Or (Littleton) in the two-day state tournament at Boomerang Golf Links Golf Course.

Schrick entered the May 20 second round two strokes off first. She finished fourth as a freshman last year.

This time, she battled not only her opponents but a consistently blustery wind and took control.

Schrick gained the lead quickly. She had birdies on holes 2, 5 and 6 on the front nine and established a sturdy advantage.

“Starting off having a decent first nine holes definitely helped set me up,” Schrick said.

Things got a little wobbly toward the end with two bogeys and a double bogey in the final five holes, but Schrick had done her work early with four total birdies in the round.

“That was the most nervous I’ve ever been in my life. I’m still shaking,” Schrick said shortly after finishing her round. “But, you just have to hit it and see where it goes.”

The lead held, she finished with a par on No. 18 to secure the title with a wave of relief and happiness hitting as the ball went in to secure the title.

“Probably the best feeling I’ve ever had. It’s just a really cool experience,” Schrick said.

Schrick shot a final round of 76 and finished at 150 total (plus-six). Bar-Or was at 152 for the two-day tournament and third-place Peyton Mraz (Holy Family) at 155.

Schrick is Timnath’s first golf state champion.

Timnath teammate Haley Walser finished tied for 31st with a two-day score of 190 (plus-46).

Windsor golfer Macy Kleve finishes third

Windsor’s Macy Kleve was right in a tight three-player race for the 4A title at Broadlands Golf Course, but fell just short of the title May 20.

Kleve shot a second-round 78 (plus-six) and finished with a two-day state tournament score of 153 (plus-nine). Kleve finished two strokes behind winner Landry Frost (151) of Air Academy. Ponderosa’s Kaylee Meyering finished second with a total of 152.

Windsor finished fourth as a team, 32 strokes behind 4A champion Riverdale Ridge.

Here are where Windsor’s other golfers finished:

  • Abbie Winterbottom: Placed 31st at plus-47.
  • McKenna Hersh: Placed tied for 42th at plus-54.
  • Ruth Stephens: Placed 55th at plus-62.

Fossil Ridge finishes third

Fossil Ridge took third place as a team in Class 5A. The SaberCats finished plus-60, 30 strokes behind winner Valor Christian at Todd Creek Golf Club in Thornton. Fossil Ridge was just two strokes behind second-place Legend.

Ellie Barry had a big Day 2 on May 20 to surge into the top-10. After shooting a first-round 83, Barry came back with a 77 in the final round. It mean she ended plus-16 (160) and in 10th place. Valor Christian’s Ella Scott won the tournament at plus-four (148).

Here are Fossil Ridge’s other finishers:

  • Abbi Beld: Placed tied for 15th at plus-19 (163).
