The NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at Gateway begins with practice and qualifying on Sept. 6 for the next day’s Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

The Round of 16 opened at Darlington last weekend with a dominant performance by Chase Briscoe, who won the Southern 500 for a second straight season.

Two races remain in the first round of the playoffs, with the cutoff race at Bristol next week. Alex Bowman, Shane van Gisbergen and Josh Berry all struggled last week at Darlington and likely need two good race results to advance to the Round of 12.

  • Qualifying time: 4:40 p.m. CT Saturday (practice begins at 3:30 p.m.)
