It’s time for the 2025 Masters.

The first men’s major championship of the year begins Thursday at Augusta National Golf Club, where 96 golfers will battle it out to slip on the famed green jacket. However, one of the most notable champions of the Masters isn’t going to be in the field.

Tiger Woods ruptured his Achilles last month and will be one of 16 past Masters champions not playing at Augusta National.

Tiger Woods, the 15-time major champion, ruptured his left Achilles while ramping up training to return to competitive golf. He underwent a successful procedure to repair the tendon, which Woods called minimally invasive. Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida, performed the surgery, and said Woods is expected to make a full recovery.

There’s no timetable for Woods’ return, though he’s likely not to play until later this year or early in 2026.

It’s unknown whether Woods will attend the Champions Dinner, but it’s one of the most notorious events of the year, and there’s a good chance he’s in attendance to celebrate Scottie Scheffler’s victory in 2024.
