Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s tech-infused golf league, Tomorrow Golf League (TGL), wrapped up its inaugural season on Tuesday night.

Billy Horschel led the Atlanta Drive to a 4-3 victory over Xander Schauffele and New York Golf Club. It was a thrilling finish with fans and the players in euphoria.

As it turns out, even Phil Mickelson is a proponent of the TGL.

Following Tuesday’s finale, golf insider Dan Rapaport shared his reaction to Season 1, with a very positive spin.

Mickelson responded to his post with some surprising, yet insightful thoughts on the virtual golf league.

“It would be great for golf if this [TGL] were to succeed,” Mickelson wrote on X.

“The golf fan is the most loyal fan in sports. Buy a ticket, walk miles and see a fraction of the action, but this could allow the golf fan to buy a ticket, sit down and watch of the action just like other sports. It could really be good for the game if it’s compelling.”

Within the first 12 hours of the post, more than 200,000 people have seen it. That spawned speculation behind Lefty’s motivation for such kind words. But the answer is likely a simple truth.

Mickelson has long since been in favor of golf’s changing landscape. That was part of the reason why he left the PGA Tour for LIV Golf.

The money probably didn’t hurt either.

Nevertheless, Lefty touched on a growing trend in the golf space. The audience and demographic is getting younger. Attention spans are getting shorter.

The TGL provides a fast-paced, two-hour round of golf that fans can see every bit of.

It is still a bit surprising to see the six-time major champion give such a ringing endorsement considering his rivalry with Woods.

But it appears Mickelson has the right priorities in mind, growing the game of golf.
