Tiger Woods has won a U.S. Open by 15 shots, and he’s also captured the championship in an 18-hole playoff while essentially playing on one leg.

He’s one of the greatest U.S. Golf Association champions of all-time, tied with Bobby Jones at nine USGA titles in their careers. He won U.S. Opens at Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black and Torrey Pines, and in the 2007 U.S. Open at Oakmont, he finished tied for second.

Woods is not in the field at this week’s 2025 U.S. Open, still recovering after rupturing his Achilles in March.

The 15-time major championship posted a video on social media talking about he challenges Oakmont Country Club outside of Pittsburgh represents.

“There is no faking about Oakmont,” Woods said. “The golf course is big, yes, but it’s just … there is no way around it. You just have to hit the golf ball well, and it favors longer hitters, just because of the degrees, the complexes.

“It just helps so much to be coming with shorter iron, to be able to sock the ball. It’s about missing the ball on correct spots because if you don’t, it’s horrible.”

This will be Oakmont’s 10th time hosting the national championship, the most of any course. This will be the eighth time Tiger has missed a U.S. Open.
