Tiger Woods is not the only one who’s eligible to compete in the 2025 Players Championship that’s not planning to be there.
As it turns out, there are three others.
The deadline to enter the 144-man field was last Friday, and Woods was not on the list. This marks the final year of his five-year exemption for winning the 2019 Masters. While he has competed in the inaugural season of TGL as well as the Seminole pro-member event, he has yet to tee it up on the PGA Tour in 2025.
Ernie Els was a three-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions a year ago, including the Kaulig Companies Championship (aka the Senior Players), which earns the winner a spot in the Players, but he’s bowing out at TPC Sawgrass due to some outside obligations with his golf design business as well as a commercial shoot with one of his sponsors.
The other two are Alex Noren, ranked 60th in the latest Official World Golf Ranking, and Brendon Todd, ranked 141st.
The Players starts Thursday. The total purse is $25 million and first place is good for $4.5 million.
