Golf legend Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, on Friday afternoon. According to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred just after 1 p.m. local time when Woods’ Land Rover clipped a pickup truck pulling a trailer, causing his vehicle to flip onto its side.

While Martin County Fire Rescue confirmed there were no serious injuries sustained in the wreck, Sheriff John Budensiek told reporters that Woods showed “signs of impairment” at the scene. This marks the 50-year-old’s second DUI-related arrest in South Florida, following a 2017 incident in which he was found asleep at the wheel.
The crash occurs at a critical juncture in Woods’ latest comeback attempt. After a year sidelined by a ruptured Achilles and a subsequent back surgery in October, he had just made his competitive debut earlier this week in the TGL indoor league finals. Despite hitting balls on live courses recently, Woods had not yet committed to playing in the 2026 Masters, which begins on April 9.

Tiger Woods car crash: Latest updates on golf star
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover car crash on Jupiter Island, Fla., shortly after 2 p.m. ET on Friday, and was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) after refusing to give a urine sample.

Photos and videos from multiple new outlets showed a vehicle, which was revealed to be a Land Rover, resting on its side with emergency personnel and a tow truck at the scene.
In a press conference from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, it was announced that Woods was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence (DUI); he blew 0.00 on a breathalyzer, the golfer refused to give a urine sample and was arrested. He is currently in their jail (being held separate from the general population), and per the officer, he was cooperative but did not want to incriminate himself. He will be released on bond, if he posts it, after being held for eight hours, per a Florida state statute.
“The individual driving that Land Rover was able to crawl out of the passenger door of the car and was identified to be Mr. Tiger Woods,” the officer said. “Our DUI investigators came to the scene here, and Mr. Woods did exemplify signs of impairment. They did several tests on him … when it was determined he was placed under arrest and taken to the Martin County Jail.”

The officers said that Woods was not under the influence of alcohol, but rather some sort of medication, going on to say “we will never get definitive results on what he was impaired on during the crash.” Both charges on Woods are misdemeanors: one count of DUI and one count of refusal to take a urine analysis test.
Woods was not injured on the scene, but rather “lathargic,” probably because of what he was on. The officer went on to say because it was a two-lane road and both cars were moving in the same direction, “this could have been a lot worse.” Moreover, there will not be additional tests.
“He has a right to refuse that test,” the officer said. “There is a Florida statute, which he will be charged with, for refusing to take that test. But, we will never get definitive results as to what he was impaired on during the crash.”
Before the presser, a CBS12 report indicated that there were no serious injuries. One person involved was described as stable, while another reportedly declined a trip to the hospital. The officer went on to confirm that nobody was injured and Woods was the only one in his car, where no drugs or medication were found.

Eyewitnesses at the scene told TMZ Sports that two vehicles appeared to be involved in the collision. The same report noted that Woods seemed to be “OK.”
The 50-year-old golf legend has been working toward a return to the course following a long hiatus caused by a ruptured Achilles tendon in March 2025 and lumbar disc replacement this past October. Though Woods made his first competitive appearance of the year earlier this week in the TGL finals, he has remained non-committal about his status for the 2026 Masters, which is set to begin on April 9.
