There Is Reportedly Unrest Within Rangers, Concerns About The Team’s Core Plateauing

There is a lot going on regarding the New York Rangers today.

First, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Rangers have made it very clear they are interested in making moves and shaking up their roster with Chris Kreider and Jacob Trouba’s names being indicated as potential options in a move.

Now, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today not only confirmed this report, but gave some insight into the turmoil and dysfunction going on within the Rangers organization.

“There is definite unrest in #NYR org right now, with concerns from the top about this core plateauing and increasing unease from players/employees,” Mercogliano wrote via X. “But sources also reminded how rare/difficult big deals are this time of year.”

While the Rangers currently hold a 12-6-1 record, they have clearly not looked like the same team that won the Presidents’ Trophy just last season.

Members of the team, specifically the people from the management group seem to be hitting the panic button early on in the year.

Mercogliano wrote that Rangers general manager Chris Drury sent a message to all NHL general managers following New York’s 6-2 loss on Saturday night to the Edmonton Oilers that he is open for business and motivated to shakeup the team’s core.

At this point in the season, it’s extremely difficult to make a monumental move especially involving players such as Kreider and Trouba who are both making upwards of $6 million annually.

All eyes are on the Rangers given these rumors and the potential shake-up that the franchise may go through sooner rather than later.
