Milan director of sport Igli Tare insists Luka Modric ‘will say yes’ to a new season at San Siro, but his own future is up in the air. ‘We are paid to get results.’

It kicks off at San Siro at 19.45 UK time (20.45 CEST).

The Rossoneri had struggled recently, but last week’s 2-1 win away to Genoa and Juventus crumbling at home to Fiorentina mean that a victory here would guarantee qualification for the Champions League.

Tare and Milan keep focused

“We tried to close ourselves off to all these rumours, because this is a fundamental match and it must take us to the target we set at the start of the season, so we can celebrate together with our fans,” Tare told DAZN Italia.

Although Rafael Leao, Alexis Saelemaekers and Pervis Estupinan are all back from suspension, only the Belgian is chosen to start, with Leao and Christian Pulisic benched in favour of Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku.

“I think ultimately he will remain, as he is a Milanista, he is very fond of everyone here and the fans, so I am convinced he will say yes.”

There was a summit this afternoon between patron Gerry Cardinale, RedBird advisors Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Massimo Calvelli, plus chief scout Geoffrey Moncada.

However, director of sport Igli Tare and CEO Giorgio Furlani were notably absent.

There were protests outside the stadium before kick-off, including a huge banner reading: ‘Furlani out, Ibra, Moncada and Scaroni follow him quickly!’

Does Tare think tonight’s result will decide his future as well?

“I don’t know. We are paid to get results, as Max said yesterday, the important thing is to focus together on this target. From tomorrow, we can play for the future.”
