Fran Brown is widely considered to be a candidate for the head coach opening at Penn State after James Franklin’s firing, but the Syracuse coach isn’t entertaining any questions about possibly leaving his current role.

Brown was asked about possibly taking a “bigger” job, a question he was not a fan of.

“I’m working at Syracuse right now, so I really don’t need to talk about that,” Brown said (10:45 mark). “If this wasn’t where I wanted to be at in the moment, would I be standing here at this moment? Yeah, so I’m just focused on that. I’m focused on being here. I’m locked in on coaching the players that I have here. This is where I work at. I think that’s disrespectful to even bring that up and ask that. Like, what’s the point in asking that? To make some media of me saying something opposite? They hired me to come here and do a job to coach this team, and that’s what I’m doing.”

It’s reasonable for fans and the media to suspect Brown will be in the mix for a job such as the head coaching gig at Penn State. He took over at Syracuse ahead of the 2024 campaign and led the Orange to a 10-3 season, their best since 2018.

Syracuse started the year 3-1, with its only loss coming to Tennessee, before starting quarterback Steve Angeli suffered a season-ending injury.

Only time will tell whether Brown is interested in taking a job elsewhere, but for now he’s focused on his current position. The Orange will look to get back on track this week against Pitt after two consecutive losses.
