Scottie Scheffler has dominated professional golf over the past few years.
Scheffler has racked up 20 PGA Tour wins since February 2022, including four major championships.
However, the 29-year-old American has proven that he is certainly not infallible this season.

Despite winning the first PGA Tour event he played in 2026, Scheffler has looked like a shadow of his former self at times on the golf course.
Scheffler’s swing has been completely off in recent weeks, with Brandel Chamblee going as far as to suggest that it is unrecognizable.
The world number one still hasn’t finished outside the top-25 since August 2024, though. So, some perspective and balanced critique are definitely required.

It’s worth noting that Scheffler’s fellow PGA Tour players are still very much in awe of him, and that tells us all we need to know.
However, will he go on to have one of the greatest careers in the history of the sport? Or is it still far too early to judge him?

Scottie Scheffler said to be a problem for golf commentators
Scheffler obviously has a long way to go before he can even be talked about as one of the top-five golfers of all time.
If he wins two tournaments on average for the next 11 years and one major every three years during that period, he will have 42 wins and eight majors to his name by the time he’s 40.
Then we will be able to start talking about how far he can take his legacy.
When speaking on Trey Wingo’s YouTube show, Steve Sands was asked what he makes of Scheffler being compared to some of the greatest golfers of all time.
“One of the things I find the most difficult about Scottie and his domination,“ Sands began.

“Remember, it’s been four years and a month since he won for the first time on the PGA Tour.
“That was Super Bowl weekend in 2022.
“He now has all those majors, back to back Players, number one in the world for, like, forever.
“The longest cut streak, 20 career victories.
“It’s a problem, and it’s a problem to have to try to not compare him to the greats of all time.
“My opinion is, you don’t want to rub anointing oil all over people before you really should.
“However, the sample size is getting large. It’s now four plus years.
“He’s already won this year. People think he’s not playing that great. He’s playing just fine, and he’s going to be just fine.

“He already has a win already this season, and he will start ramping up as he gets to Augusta.

“He did want to play this week to get another start in, by the way, before going to Augusta to try to win the Masters for the third time.
“But the biggest challenge is keeping your mouth shut and trying to not compare him to what we’ve seen in the past.”
Too early to compare Scheffler to the greats
Sands went on to highlight how numerous other players have enjoyed three-year periods of incredible success on the PGA Tour.
“McIlroy from ’11 to ’14 was incredible. Justin Thomas had his run. Jordan Spieth from ’14 to ’17,“ he explained.
“You know, there have been a lot of players who have had those three or four-year seasons of incredible golf.

“Let’s see the sample size get larger for Scottie, even though it’s getting to that point, it’s not quite there yet to compare him to some of the all time greats.
“To me, it’s just a little bit too early. Even Scottie would tell you that. It’s a little too early to start talking about that kind of stuff.“
It has to be said, while Thomas, Spieth and McIlroy have enjoyed incredible runs throughout their respective careers, none of them have won at the rate that Scottie has.
McIlroy won eight times from 2011 to 2014, including four major triumphs.
Spieth has 13 PGA Tour wins in his career, including three major championships, while Justin Thomas has won 16 times, with two major trophies to his name.

Scottie Scheffler has won 20 TIMES IN FOUR YEARS! He has been victorious at four major championships during that timespan as well.
He definitely has something special about him and it will only be a matter of time before it’s impossible not to compare him with the all time greats.
