BIGFORK — Jeff Cochran, playing in the Eagle Bend men’s member-guest tournament, “The Wanagan,” dunked a tee shot and won a car on July 18.

Cochran recorded a hole-in-one on the 161-yard No. 4 at Eagle Bend Golf Club to win a new car courtesy of Kalispell Auto Group. He used a 9-iron on the shot, which flew from tee directly into the cup on the fly.

“This was one of those unforgettable golf moments,” David Fetveit, local real estate broker and a sponsor of the hole-in-one contest, told the Bigfork Eagle. “To have someone win a car with a hole-in-one — and at an event like The Wanagan — just adds to the magic.”

Hasquet wins Men’s Seniors

GREAT FALLS — Missoula’s Bob Hasquet secured a wire-to-wire victory at the 70th Montana State Men’s Senior Tournament on Thursday, winning his first Seniors title by six strokes.

Hasquet overcame a bit of rain and a field full of past title winners and MSGA Hall of Famers to shoot 3-under 205 for the 54-hole event. He opened with a 61 on Tuesday, fired a 69 on Wednesday and then shot a 75 that included three birdies to pull away from Bill Dunn (79 Thursday) and Whitefish Lake golfer Brad Grattan (69).

Dunn, who won this tournament in 2021 and 2023, had a 62 on Tuesday while Grattan shot 65. Grattan, the 2022 winner, had Thursday’s low score. Both golfers finished at 211.

In fourth place at plus-5 was Kelly Knievel of Butte, and Helena’s Jay Anderson was next at 7-over.

In the Freshman Division (ages 55-62) the top three remained the same, with Bozeman’s Todd Sisson coming in fourth at 8-over. Knievel took home the top spot in the Sophomore Division (ages 63-69); the Junior Division (ages 70-77) was led by Jay Anderson in first place, with Dave Stengel of Missoula and Terry Vanderpan of Billings tied for second at 12-over. Bruce Scott of Kalispell was fifth at 16-over.

Monty Kuka of Great Falls won the Senior Division (ages 78-84) at 13-over. Tom Hall of Great Falls was 16-over and Dave Streeter of Whitefish was third at 23-over.

The Super Senior Masters (ages 85-88) had perhaps the closest battle:  Norman Carey overtook fellow Missoulian and past winner Glenn Kozeluh in the event,

In the Super Senior Legends (89+), Bob Miller of Butte led write-to-wire to win the division at 77-over.
