Led by three Buena High players, six area boys golfers advanced to the state regional tournament by finishing in the top 28 at the CIF-Southern Section Individual Championship & SCGA Qualifying Tournament at Temecula Creek Country Club on Thursday, May 22.

Buena freshman Brandon Anderson, who won the CIF-SS Northern Regional Individual Tournament on May 15, fired a 2-under-par 69 to tie for sixth place. Senior Brady McHenry shot and senior Adam Anderson had a 73 as all three Bulldogs advanced to the Regional State Qualifier at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills on May 29.

Oaks Christian junior Graham Christopher shot an even-par 71 and teammate Broxton Borck, a sophomore, had a 73 to qualify for the regional.

Newbury Park sophomore Aidan Peters shot a 74 and survived six playoff holes to advance.

Westlake junior Sammy Bermant shot a 74 but was knocked out on the second playoff hole.

Oaks Christian junior Max Emberson, who won the individual state title last season, shot a 69 for the Lions, who finished 10th in the team competition. Oaks Christian reached the team finals after winning the CIF-SS Division 2 title on May 19. Emberson did not advance to the state regional because he did not play in the Northern Regional tournament.

Crespi’s Grant Leary won the CIF-SS individual title by shooting a 5-under 66.

The state championship will be held at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach on June 3.
