Not every decision has to end with bloodshed and death in Avowed. You might be able to come to a reasonable conclusion if you can find some common ground during a quest. This can happen during Precious Light quest when you’re speaking with Captain Bardatto.

Bardatto is working for the Vailian Trading Company, and wants to return the shipment of luminous Adra to her employers. It was stolen by a group of smugglers led by Captain Trevik. When you speak with him to acquire the Luminous Adra, he informs you of his situation and asks you to deal with Captain Bardatto, giving you the Luminous Adra. You have a choice here to get on Bardatto’s good side or take her out. Should you kill or give the Luminous Adra to Captain Bardatto in Avowed? Here’s what you need to know.

Should you kill Captain Bardatto or give her the Luminous Adra in Avowed?

When speaking with Bardatto, you have two options: choose to kill her, or give her the Luminous Adra. If you give Bardatto the Adra, you receive 500 coins, and if you give the Luminous Adra to Sapiento, he gives you 300 coins and The Fantastic Alembic. Despite getting less money, killing Bardatto and completing the quest for Sapiento seems better, as you receive a unique trinket, which is what you should go with. Killing Captain Bardatto is the better option even if you don’t use the trinket on your Avowed character, too. Selling the trinket or breaking it down for crafting materials could be useful for other items you want to upgrade.

Plus, if you decide to fight against Captain Bardatto, you do get to loot her and her mercenaries. Unfortunately, she doesn’t drop a unique item.

What happens when you kill Captain Bardatto in Avowed?

Although you can attempt to hear Captain Bardatto’s side of the story about Trevik’s betrayal, regardless of what you do, she won’t agree with you or let the matter go unless you give her the Luminous Adra. Because of this, the only other option available to you is to fight her. Her guards will assist her in the fight, and these enemies are rank two, meaning you’ll want to have at least Fine quality weapons and armor to fight them. Besides Bardatto, who is a boss, the Elder Brown Bear can prove a difficult adversary.

Upon defeating Bardatto, she won’t be a threat to Trevik and his smugglers anymore. You can return to the person who originally gave you the quest, Sapiento. He gives you your rewards for completing the quest: 300 coins and The Fantastic Alembic trinket you can wear. The Fantastic Alembic trinket gives you the passive where whenever you drink a potion, all built-up Accumulations clear for you, which could prove helpful if you’re fighting creatures that hit you with status effects.

What happens when you give Captain Bardatto the Luminous Adra in Avowed?

The alternative option when speaking with Bardatto is to agree that the Luminous Adra belongs to her and the Vailian Trading Company. If you do this, this option also saves Captain Trevik and his smugglers from being hunted and killed by Bardatto, but you fail the quest with Sapiento. However, Bardatto makes up for it by giving you 500 coins in exchange for the Luminous. If you’re more interested in getting money in Avowed, this could prove a better option.

The Precious Light quest won’t end there, though. You do have to return to Sapiento where you can choose to lie to him or tell him the truth. Regardless of how you tell him, he does not provide you with the 300 coins or the trinket for completing the quest, and you miss out on those.
