Shohei Ohtani has been activated from the paternity list and will join the Los Angeles Dodgers for their series finale versus the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Ohtani was placed on the paternity list on Friday and stayed in Los Angeles in anticipation of his wife giving birth to their first child. The couple announced on Saturday that they’re the parents of a new baby girl.

According to MLB roster rules, Ohtani could miss no more than three days while on the paternity list but was required to sit out at least one game. So Monday was the latest that Ohtani could rejoin the team, when they will be traveling to Chicago.

Following Sunday’s finale at Texas, the Dodgers play two games visit the Chicago Cubs for a two-game set and then return home on Thursday. The Dodgers begin a six-game homestand versus the Pittsburgh Pirates and Miami Marlins on Friday.

In 20 games with the Dodgers this season, Ohtani is batting .288 with an .930 OPS, six home runs, eight RBI and five stolen bases. The Dodgers are 15-7 going into Sunday’s matchup with the Rangers, a half-game behind the San Diego Padres for second place in the NL West.

To clear a spot for Ohtani on the active roster, the Dodgers designated Eddie Rosario for assignment. Rosario, 33, had been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma to take Ohtani’s place. He batted .339 with a .948 OPS this season in the minors. In two games with the Dodgers, Rosario appeared in two games at designated hitter, batting 1-for-4.

The Dodgers have one week to either trade Rosario or put him on waivers. If he clears waivers, Rosario could return to the Dodgers’ Triple-A affiliate, with whom he played 14 games this season or opt for free agency.
